While it’s true to say that use of cannabis or any recreation drugs while pregnant probably isn’t a good idea, warnings as to the horrors cannabis can cause have been seriously exaggerated. A study carried out in 2016 and published in October found that cannabis cannot be considered a risk factor in its own right for adverse outcomes during and after pregnancy. Investigators at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis analysed data from a 33-year period, reaching the conclusion that while cannabis use while pregnant remains inadvisable, the risks associated with its consumption are perhaps nowhere near as severe as previously suggested.
