The simple fact of the matter is that when you attempt to take control of something massively larger and stronger than you with a brain the size of a walnut, you really are rolling the dice with fate. You may love horses and you may think they love you, but they are always only ever an inch or two from freaking out and doing something unexpected. We tell them what to do and expect them to perform tricks on demand, so to a certain extent it’s less than surprising that they pay us back by killing more than 20 people every year. But are we trained to fear and loathe horses for being so deadly? Of course not…that’s reserved for cannabis, it seems.
