One of the biggest arguments voiced by cannabis critics the world over is the one that suggests legalization of cannabis will lead to a massive spike in the number of kids and teens smoking pot. That following legalization, the streets will be filled with stoned kids throwing their lives away. In reality however, evidence from Colorado and Washington State points to the exact opposite of this predicted outcome. By making pot legal and taking it out of the hands of black market dealers, it loses its rebellious appeal in the eyes of would-be younger smokers and is a subject that’s no longer taboo. Which is precisely why since recreational cannabis was made legal, there has in fact been a marked reduction in the number of minors and teens using cannabis. It’s not a fact that critical cannabis contingencies like, but it is a fact nonetheless.
