Taking its name from a haunt slightly further north, the A-Train strain shares its handle with a Manhattan subway line. Why? Well, you’ll get a different answer from almost every seasoned stoner you ask, but to be honest it’s not important. What is important is how A-Train is a hybrid combination of Trainwreck and Mazar I Sharif – the best of Northern California and Afghanistan brought together in one awesome strain.

A-Train has scooped up a bunch of prestigious awards along the way, including a High Times Cannabis Cup runner-up position in 1999. And it was still considered epic enough in 2009 to be rated as one of the year’s top smokes by Danny Danko.

A Train Strain Effects

Its aroma is quintessentially heavy, powerful and skunky, though the flavour has a much more delicate sweet-citrus profile with a slightly minty undertone. There’s also plenty of exotic spice in the background and just a teasing hint of fruit.

Growing an A Train Strain

A-Train plants are characteristically bushy, reaching a height in the region of about 130cm. The bud to leaf ratio is slightly on the low side, but the buds themselves have decent density and THC concentrations in the region of 18%. If you’re growing indoors, hydro methods will always improve yields though soil growing produces better flavour. Expect a flowering time in the region of 8 weeks and around 350g per square metre if you get things right.

You’ll have no luck at all outdoors unless you live in a Mediterranean climate and really keep a close eye on things from day-one. Still, it’s a really easy strain to grow indoors and while it doesn’t pay off with the biggest yields, A-Train ticks all the right boxes when it comes to quality.
