More sensitive types may know this particular strain as Alaskan Tundra or even Matanuska Tundra, but its official moniker is nonetheless Alaskan Thunder Fuck. It’s not the kind of name that paints a picture of a shrinking violet…nor should it be either. Originally concocted in the 70s by bringing together Northern Californian Sativa with Afghani weed, Alaskan Thunder Fuck went on to win multiple awards – including a High Times Medical Cannabis Cup gong in 2011.

Both the aroma and flavour of Alaskan Thunder Fuck are something else – floral notes with a red grape undertone and a distinct hit of chocolate in the aftertaste. The high comes on hard and fast, but isn’t immediately overpowering. Due to this being a Sativa dominant hybrid it’s more of a mellow, lingering high that gradually leads to a state of relaxed drowsiness and pleasant lethargy. Unsurprisingly therefore, it comes highly recommended in medical marijuana circles as a strain for insomnia and anxiety.

Growing Alaskan Thunder Fuck can be extremely rewarding, producing small and bushy plants that are ideally suited to smaller spaces. The fact that it originates from Alaska means there’s plenty of scope for growing it outdoors in cooler northern regions, though higher yields can usually be obtained indoors especially by adopting hydro growing methods. Characterised by comparatively pale leaves, the buds manifest in the shape of slightly elongated pairs, covered with pretty white crystals and plenty of vibrant orange hairs.

Flowering time comes in at around the 11-week mark and yields are generous, coming in at somewhere close to 300g to 350g for every square metre. It’s seen as a great plant to start out with or to try your luck with in Northern European countries, given its resilience and how easy it makes it to produce a solid yield.

Alaskan Thunder Fuck isn’t what you’d call a social weed, but for zoning out with a deeply immersive stone that doesn’t quit for a least a few hours, it ticks all the right boxes and then some.
